13:16 | Rugby Tours at NSB Rugby South Africa 2015 The tour departed on 21st July 2015 and flew directly to Cape Town.
Upon arrival the squad went straight into a cultural experience of Table Mountain and then it was down to the real business. The squad played their first game on Day 2 against Brackenfell High School.
The Blog was regularly updated with pictures, video clips and articles from the players themselves.
Please see the links below as they are uploaded during the duration of the tour.
Over the previous decades, NSB have embarked on rugby tours to a variety of destinations including New Zealand, South Africa and Canada. For this tour it was decided to travel to South Africa. This is based on value for money and the experiences available to the players.
Everybody associated with the tours has found the experience to be enormously rewarding. The tour has created many new friends with some staying in touch long beyond the duration of our visit.
The tours have followed a variety of patterns over the past decades, but we have now settled on a completion of Year 11 tour, prior to the boys completing their secondary education. This was an excellent way to finish their school rugby career and aid in the development of them possibly playing together the following year for the 1st XV if they continue into 6th form education at NSB.
On this tour the squad coached young South African children from local townships, played against a variety of teams from a diverse range of backgrounds in South Africa whilst also being submerged into a very different and contrasting culture. This tour was eye opening and life changing.
This experience and adventure for them, however, started months before with a high proportion of the expenditure aiming to be raised through fundraising. The fundraising covered the cost of kit, balls, and equipment to take with us but will also to supplement the total cost making this memorable experience possible.
At NSB we are really keen on shaping the future lives of these boys, and therefore put all the tour members through a Leadership qualification ran by the Rugby Football Union prior to the departure date to give the boys the tools they needed for when they were out in South Africa. All of these fundraising and leadership opportunities were focussed on developing the student’s life skills needed for the future.
